Kelly Joe Phelps did his guitar folk/blues thing Saturday night at the Narrows.

Thank you for the photos to memorialize my first visit to the Narrows Center. What a wonderful place, a local treasure. I can't wait to return.
The double bonus was being introduced to the mustic of Kelly Joe Phelps. Wow. I quickly ordered several of his CDs. It was great to see him live, to see how he squeezes dimensions of expression out of the human voice with every muscle in his body. I swear the man can breath with his toes, his eyelids, and the hair on the back of his neck.
After watching Kelly Joe live, one is left with the simultanelous impressions of having witnessed something utterly unique AND that there appears to be limitless potential in the musical form Kelly Joe has created.
I was transfixed as I witnessed the familiar Blues instrumental occasional leap from the background, through musical openings reminiscent of folk and jazz styles, into the foreground and intertwine with Kelly Joe's incredible vocals to become a musical-lyrical conversation. What was that? Give me more.
As a volunteer of the Narrows Center for the Arts, as a member of it's board and as a regular reader of this blog, I was moved by the comment from "Happy Gary" regarding our venue and last night's show.
Gary's words so eloquently said it all. I too was transfixed by the performance and sat absorbing the music in my seat instead of working on the paperwork piling up in the office. Kelly Joe's guitar mastery was extraordinary, his voice so pleasing to my ears. For those of you who missed the show search for his cd's and give him a listen.
And yes Gary, the Narrows is a wonderful place and a local treasure. I only hope your words spark some interest in those who've yet to visit the Narrows to come and see who we are for themselves.
